25: James Robinson, RB (Jr.) — Illinois State
Robinson will go down in Illinois high school history as one of the best running backs to come through the state. The Rockford native broke state records with 9,045 yards and 158 rushing touchdowns in his career. Ranked a two-star recruit, Robinson decided to stay close to home and go to Illinois State. He wasted little time showing what he can do.
As a true freshman in 2016, Robinson rushed for 322 yards and two touchdowns. Given the reigns as the go-to guy last year, he put together a HERO Sports FCS Sophomore All-American season. The 5-foot-10, 215-pound back was also an MVFC First Team selection after finishing second in the conference and 11th in the FCS with 12 rushing touchdowns. His 933 rushing yards was third in the Valley while his 5.7 yards per carry ranked second.
Robinson still has two seasons left for the Redbirds but is already considered a top running back in the FCS. We named him on our preseason All-American Second Team.
