5: Robbie Grimsley, SS (Sr.) — North Dakota State
Grimsley is a steady presence in the NDSU secondary and has been since his true freshman season in 2015 when he was thrown into the fire, or the fiery smoke, at Montana during the FCS Kickoff Classic. A few games later, he earned the starting role at strong safety. Grimsley now enters his senior season starting 39 games in a row.
His experience has come with great statistics: 221 total tackles, 110 solo, 9 tackles for loss, 12 passes defended, 3 sacks and 11 interceptions.
Each of his seasons as a Bison have come with postseason recognition. The former Minnesota "Mr. Football" winner went from the 2015 MVFC All-Newcomer Team to First Team All-Conference honors in 2016 and 2017. Grimsley earned a spot on the STATS All-American Second Team last year. We showed him some love this summer, naming him on our preseason All-American Second Team and the best returning defensive back in the MVFC.
Grimsley is a leader on NDSU's defense, which once again looks to be a Top 3 unit in the FCS.
