MCLAUGHLIN: Let's Tweak The FCS Schedule
The transition to being a winning program has been rapid. In the four seasons prior to Rebowe and his staff coming on board, the program had gone 1-10, 1-10, 4-8 and 0-12. Since then, it has been 3-8, 5-6, 8-3 and the FCS Playoffs and a 3-2 start to this year after a brutal four-game stretch to open things. And while Nicholls had pushed Georgia and Texas A&M to the limit in 2016 and 2017, the Colonels had never in school history beaten a Power Five Conference team until this year's season-opener, when it knocked off the Big 12's Kansas, right before the Jayhawks annihilated Rutgers and Central Michigan the next two weeks.
Needless to say, something special is brewing in Thibodaux, Louisiana. After playing clearly its toughest four games in the opening four weeks, Nicholls will undoubtedly be heavily favored for the rest of its schedule. The potential for a 9-2 finish is there, as long as this team keeps its focus.
FCS PLAYOFFS: Brian, Chase and Sam Predict The Field
This fact along should fire up the Colonels: Only one Nicholls team has won 9 or more games in a season – the 10-3 team in 1986.
Rebowe's philosophy of keeping the recruiting local, to kids who know and embrace Nicholls, has been one part of the program's growth. Having a special quarterback named Chase Fourcade on the roster, along with several other key guys who came aboard with that first full-cycle recruiting class in 2016, has been a big recipe for success.
So join us as we have a Podcast segment with Rebowe, and ask him about his background, how Cajun food and hospitality may just have something to do with the success … and many other topics. Enjoy!
