Welcome to the FCS Coaches Corner Podcast on the HERO Sports Podcast Network. This week Brian McLaughlin catches up with Eastern Kentucky head football coach Mark Elder, and they discuss the excitement the campus has ahead of the 2019 season. With a multitude of talent returning off a 7-4 season, the Colonels are getting some preseason national attention they haven't received in a while. The Colonels open the season at home against Valparaiso on Thursday.

Last year, two of the Colonels' four losses were to FBS teams, and both games were close … and it seemed the program was maybe just one more win away from making the FCS playoffs as an at-large team. This year, the program would like to take one more step forward, but Elder said he knows the Ohio Valley Conference won't make it easy.
"Things are going great. We have a very, very positive vibe and we have had an outstanding camp and very few injuries, and very little time being anticipated to be lost," Elder said.
