No. 11 Jake Fromm
Georgia – QB
One of Kirby Smart's first phone calls as Georgia head coach went to the father of four-star quarterback Jake Fromm, to whom Smart offered a scholarship (seriously, Mark Richt's staff didn't offer Fromm a scholarship). Fromm, the third-ranked pro-style passer in the 2016 class and fourth-ranked recruit in the state of Georgia was committed to Smart's former employer, Alabama, where he was recruited by Smart.
Smart has his priorities straight. Fromm accepted the scholarship offer, Smart's first as the Bulldogs' head coach, in March 2016, signed later that year and enrolled the following January. One year later, he came within seconds of delivering Georgia's first national championship since 1980.
After replacing an injured Jacob Eason in Week 2, Fromm threw for 2,615 yards and 24 touchdowns while leading Georgia to their second-ever 13-win season. He averaged nine yards per attempt, had a passer rating of 125.0 on throws at least 20 yards downfield and a passer rating of 98.7 on non-play-action passes.
Jake Fromm now enters his sophomore season as the starter — though five-star freshman Justin Fields has been impressive in practice and might be used in special packages — and the best No. 11 in college football.
