Lenny Williams, QB — IUP
Williams is one of the best dual-threat passers in the country, but is coming off a torn ACL from late in 2016 that may affect just how dominant he can be this season. If he is back to full health as the rumor mill suggests, then Williams can become the first Crimson Hawk to claim the ultimate prize for D2 players. Expecting an Adrian Peterson comeback may be a bit too much, but Williams makes IUP national title contenders, and there is no greater trait to win a Harlon Hill than being able to win on the field.

Michael Keir, QB — California (PA)
After proving that he can be the guy for Cal U, Keir will now need to take more control of the offense with the loss of key star receiver Garry Brown, a 2016 Harlon Hill finalist. But Keir gets back his entire stable of running backs, as well as a majority of his O-line. As long as Keir can control turnovers and continue to rack up yards and scores, he should be a guaranteed name to see at least deep into the balloting.

Marcus Martin, DE — Slippery Rock
In my own estimation the best pass rusher in the game, Martin is arguably the best defensive player with any chance of winning the Harlon Hill this season. After a down year in 2016, the Rock superstar is looking to breakthrough once again and break multiple sack and TFL records across D2. If he can reach 20 sacks and nearly 40 TFL, we may finally see a defensive player win the award once again.
