Harvard, JMU, NDSU, Illinois St., Montana Lead FCS Schools with Most NFL Players in Training Camps

As NFL teams look to narrow down 90-man rosters to 53-man regular season squads, they will have their pick of players from all levels of college football, including FCS players. The level has 291 players currently on NFL Training Camp rosters, and those 291 players come from 94 different FCS institutions.

67 FCS programs have multiple FCS players on 90-man NFL rosters as training camps open. Only one program has double-digit players in the NFL — Harvard — which has 13 pros, bookended by 13-year quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and rookies Max Rich and Anthony Firkser.

James Madison, North Dakota State, Illinois State and Montana are next in line with nine NFL players each, headlined by former NDSU quarterback Carson Wentz, NFL stalwart and former Duke linebacker Arthur Moats, former Illinois State wide receiver Cameron Meridith, who enjoyed a breakout year with the Bears last season, and eight-year pro and former Griz Anderson.

Next in line, Eastern Washington has eight NFL players on training camp rosters, as does Northern Iowa, while Portland State, South Carolina State, Delaware and Tennessee State have seven pros each.

Here's a look at the breakdown of FCS players in the NFL by school: (Note: an asterisk denotes an FCS team that is now at the FBS level, but had players competing at the FCS level)
