Kliff Kingsbury has the third-lowest buyout among Big 12 head coaches.
Kingsbury is a former Texas Tech quarterback now in his sixth season as Red Raiders' head coach, and while their Week 4 road win over Oklahoma State was impressive, he's still 3-2 this year (1-1 in the Big 12) and 33-35 overall (17-30, Big 12), has won more than six games only twice in five full years and has never finished better than fifth in the conference.
If Kingsbury is on the hot seat, it's worth noting that his buyout is small in comparison to other FBS head coaches. He hasn't signed a contract extension since 2014 and has a buyout of $4,231,250 if he were to be fired after the 2018 season. That ranks eighth among all Big 12 head coaches and 52nd among all FBS head coaches (whose contract was available to USA Today). It's still a lot of money for an athletic department that ranked seventh in total revenue for the 2016-17 year, but it's a reasonable figure that Texas Tech might be willing to eat.
