Kirk Herbstreit joined The Hot Route to talk about coaches who are widely considered to be on the hot seat, among them USC's Clay Helton, Louisville's Bobby Petrino and Fedora. He talked about each of their situations, Petrino's buyout, and made some predictions, including that North Carolina will make a change at head coach after this season.

In mid-July, after Fedora's media comments on the future of football, I asked, "Should (and will) Larry Fedora be fired?" I jumped the gun by even wondering if his job was in jeopardy because of the comments. I was wrong. However, his job is now actually in jeopardy because of a loss to one of the worst teams in the FBS.

Names like Justin Wilcox, Mike Gundy, Bryan Harsin and Brent Venables might top their dream list, and while it's technically possible one of those coaches would be interested, don't bet the farm on North Carolina paying a $14 million buyout and hiring a high-priced sought-after coach.
