No One Wanted Brock Purdy During His High School Career. Now Everyone Wants Brock Purdy

No One Wanted Brock Purdy During His High School Career. Now Everyone Wants Brock Purdy

Brock Purdy's 247Sports recruiting profile is littered with notable offers: Boise State, Iowa State, Texas A&M and UCF (and a preferred walk-on offer from Alabama). All of those came after his high school football career was over.

Purdy was an unknown 2018 recruit from Gilbert, Ariz., who, despite winning Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior at Perry High School, appeared headed for a low-level Group of Five program or the FCS. Throughout his senior, he had several FCS offers and a couple FBS offers, New Mexico State and UNLV.

On Dec. 18, 2017, just 48 hours prior to the early-signing period, Boise State offered him a scholarship. As noted by Charles Power of Cyclone Alert, Purdy could either sign with the Broncos without seeing campus or any relationship with their coaching staff or wait for a better offer. He waited and hit the jackpot.

Purdy, a three-star prospect, was one of the few top-50 quarterbacks that remained unsigned after the 72-hour early-signing window. As a result, he was in high demand. Despite not playing another snap, the offers came rolling in: Kansas on Dec. 21, UCF on Jan. 10, Iowa State on Jan. 11, Illinois on Jan 23 and Texas A&M on Feb. 11. He took some visits, hosted some coaches and picked the Cyclones on Feb. 7.

"If you're trying to see a result right away, it's probably not going to be like that," Purdy said of the recruiting process in February. "I think everyone has to be patient in everything. I think patience was key."

Purdy didn't see results right away in recruiting but he's seeing a lot of results right away as a college quarterback. The 6-foot-1, 202-pounder made his debut in Iowa State's Week 4 win over Akron and made his first start two weeks later in a road win over Oklahoma State, the program's first in Stillwater since 2000. His 318-yard, four-touchdown performance marked the beginning of what could be a special career in Ames.

Purdy threw three more touchdowns in a Week 7 win over West Virginia, and a year after not having a single Power Five offer, is 2-0, outdueled Heisman Trophy contender Will Grier and has quickly established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the Big 12, if not the country.

No one wanted Brock Purdy during his high school career. After his high school career, a few teams wanted him. Now, everyone wants him.
