A 19-year-old JUCO football signee was killed in Miami last week while selling a PlayStation.
Brian Brown, who recently graduated from North Miami Beach High School, was planning to depart for Merced College in California on July 1. He had received a scholarship to play for the Blue Devils, a JUCO program two hours east of San Jose.
Relatives say Brown advertised video games and consoles on Craigslist and he was shot during a transaction on Wednesday afternoon, according to Local 10 News.
"Happy, always smiling, a friend to everyone," Craig Brown said of his son. "Everyone who knew him — I can say at least 200 to 300 people have come here to hug me and told me what a great kid he was. and how much love he just had for everyone. [He] wouldn't hurt a fly, wouldn't hurt anyone."
"Mr. Brown had a bright future as a student-athlete and we were very excited for him to be apart of our program," said Bob Casey, Merced College's head coach.
Miami-Dade police are still investigating the shooting.
