Justin Fields, the most valuable transfer in college football history, could be the subject of one of the most important decisions in NCAA history.
"Highly touted quarterback Justin Fields has notified Georgia he intends to transfer, a person with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports," Dan Wolken reported on Monday night.
The second-to-last sentence of the story: "He is expected to appeal to the NCAA to be eligible this season."
My reaction: On what grounds? He's not transferring closer to home. Georgia isn't facing NCAA sanctions. There aren't other extenuating circumstances we know of. How could Justin Fields possibly get an immediate-eligibility waiver to play in 2019?
On Tuesday morning, Andy Staples noted that an incident at the Georgia-Tennessee game on Sept. 29 gives Fields a legitimate case for immediate eligibility. That incident makes the NCAA's ruling on Justin Fields' waiver one of the most important decisions they've ever made.
