Michigan State has been flirting with national title-worthy seasons for six years but Mark Dantonio’s team had never been able to get over the hump and reach the BCS National Championship or College Football Playoff, until now.
The Spartans grabbed the No. 3 playoff seed after a thrilling 16-13 victory over Iowa in the Big Ten Championship Game last Saturday. After winning 11 games in four of the last five years, including 13 wins in 2013, Michigan State has the best chance of capturing the program’s first national title in five decades.
