In December 2017, days after Colorado State posted a 7-5 regular-season record for the third consecutive season, third-year head coach Mike Bobo was given a raise and three-year extension that extended his original five-year deal (2014-19) through the 2021 season.
Two years later, despite a three-win 2018 season and a rough start to 2019, Rams' athletics director Joe Parker said he won't "second guess" that extension, which bumped Bobo's annual salary at least $100,000 each year from 2018-22 and increased his buyout if fired without cause.
Annual salary (Bobo declined his $100,000 raise for 2019):
2019: $1.8 million
2020: $2 million
2021: $2.1 million
2022: $2.2 million
Bobo is also eligible for several on- and off-the-field bonuses (which remained the same with the extension), including:
Conference Coach of the Year: $10,000
National Coach of the Year: $50,000
Six conference wins: $25,000
Seventh conference win: $25,000
Eighth conference win: $25,000
Mountain West Championship: $50,000
Bowl game: $50,000
If fired without cause prior to the end of his contract of Dec. 31, 2022, Bobo is owed a buyout.
Before Dec. 31, 2019: $5.5 million
Before Dec. 31, 2020: $3 million
Before Dec. 31, 2021: $2 million
Before Dec. 31, 2022: Remaining pro-rated balance
