NFL MVP Race a Showdown Between Mahomes and Gurley

The 2018 NFL season official hits the midway point with tonight's complete and total clunker between the 49ers and Raiders. While you'll want to shield your children from these two inept franchises, you can focus on something a bit more entertaining and positive: the NFL MVP race.

Right now it's a clear two-man race between Patrick Mahomes and Todd Gurley (with Drew Brees on the outside looking in).

As I recently wrote, Mahomes has every chance to break the league mark for most TD strikes in a single season currently held by Payton Manning in 2013 (55 ). Considering the Chiefs' gunslinger has a favorable schedule featuring porous defenses like the Browns and Raiders (twice), there's no reason to believe he'll fail to pad his stats that already feature 26 touchdowns and 2,526 yards in the air — both tops in the league.

If Mahomes should falter or get hurt, however, there's a running back in the NFC ready to pounce.

As you're probably aware, Gurley is putting up video-game like numbers that are making not only Rams' fans happy but also fantasy owners lucky enough to have him. He's on pace for 1,600 rushing yards and has already found the end zone an astounding 15 times (11 rushing, 4 receiving).

Any slip up by Mahomes, and you can expect Gurley to take home the hardware (assuming he stays healthy as well).
