Much hyped transfer quarterback Tanner Lee had a debut that was anything but by the numbers as Nebraska held off a scrappy and motivated Arkansas State squad 43-36 on Saturday afternoon.
The game looked to be a done deal with a couple of minutes to go, but the Red Wolves fighting spirit showed through as they scored a touchdown to cut the Huskers lead to seven points, then recovered an onside kick to keep the pressure building. Arkansas State even had a shot to tie the game with a pass from the 11-yard line, but it sailed high and incomplete as time expired and the Big Ten side held on.
