Nebraska is celebrating the 20th anniversary of their 1997 national championship with unique throwback uniforms.
The Huskers were rolling two decades ago. Head coach Tom Osborne had won at least nine games each season since he took over in 1973, the national championship in 1994 and 1995 and went 47-3 from 1994-96. They went 13-0 and won another national title in 1997 — their fifth since 1970.
It was Osborne’s final season and while the Huskers have posted a few terrific campaigns since then — including seven seasons with at least 10 wins — Nebraska football has never been the same.

Now four coaches removed from the Osborne era, Mike Riley and the Huskers will kick off the 2017 season on Saturday, Sept. 2, vs. Arkansas State at home. Five weeks later they host Wisconsin, when they’ll wear throwback uniforms.
