The New York Liberty announced over the weekend that they had re-signed Kiah Stokes to a contract extension through the 2021 season. The exact terms of the contract were not disclosed.
“Kiah is an integral part of our team and she has shown tremendous growth in her game both offensively and defensively this season,” said New York Liberty General Manager Jonathan Kolb per release. “As one of the best shot blockers in the league, her physicality and ability to stretch the defense is something that is integral to the Liberty’s culture and future success”
The six-foot-three forward was selected by the Liberty as the No. 11 overall pick of the 2015 WNBA Draft out of Connecticut. She has spent her entirety of her career with the Liberty and has averaged 5.2 points, 6.2 rebounds in 21.8 minutes per game in five seasons. She has started 43 of her 146 career games and Stokes started every game of the 2020 WNBA season for New York.
The Liberty finished up the 2020 WNBA season with a 2-19 record and a 12th place finish. They were the first WNBA team to be eliminated from the playoffs and will be in the lottery for the fourth consecutive year.
The WNBA Playoffs are set to begin with the single-round elimination beginning on Tuesday, September 15. The Connecticut Sun will face the Chicago Sky at 7:00pm ET and the Washington Mystics will take on the Phoenix Mercury at 9:00PM et on ESPN2.
