Ervin Philips had just two FBS offers coming out of West Haven High School: Temple and Syracuse.
The state's sixth-ranked player and 26th-ranked all-purpose running back in the nation picked the Orange as a senior and is now leaving college as a day-three NFL prospect with 2,069 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns.

Delaware – Brian O’Neill, OT, Pittsburgh

Fifteen hundred and forty-five players were ranked ahead of Brian O'Neill in the 2014 class. He's now a potential first-round pick after leaving Pittsburgh a year early.
He was a tight end recruit from Salesianum School, a mid-sized private school in Wilmington, and the fifth-ranked player from Delaware.

Derwin James, a potential top-10 pick, was the state's third-ranked player in 2015, only behind Martez Ivy and Byron Cowart.

The best defensive end in the 2018 NFL Draft was once an overlooked three-star recruit from Georgia.
Chubb, who had 20.5 sacks the last two seasons, was the 734th-ranked player in the country and 64th-ranked player in Georgia four years ago.

Hawaii – Hercules Mata’afa, DE, Washington State

Hercules Mata'afa was a three-star prospect from Lanaina, a town on the western shores of Maui, in 2014 with only four FBS offers.
The sixth-ranked player from the islands, Mata'afa was a three-time All-Pac-12 selection at Washington State and First-Team All-American last year.
