As Bay Area and NFL fans gear up (or down) for one of the worst primetime matchups in league history, reports state that 49ers' starting quarterback C.J. Beathard won't start against the Raiders due to an injured right wrist and thumb. 49ers' backup QB Nick Mullens will get his first NFL start. But who is Nick Mullens?

Let's get you caught up to speed.
Mullens is an undrafted free agent out of Southern Miss where, as a four-year starter, he amassed 11,994 career passing yards to go along with 87 touchdowns and 46 interceptions. His accolades include Second Team All-C-USA honors in 2015, C-USA Offensive Player of the Year in 2015, and Honorable Mention All-C-USA accolades a season ago.
The 6-1, 215-pound quarterback out of Hoover, Alabama, ended his career with the Golden Eagles as the leader in nearly every critical passing category. His best performance came in 2016 during a 44-28 win over Rice as he threw for 591 yards and four touchdowns.
So what happens if Mullens gets injured?
Beathard is listed as the backup. If he goes down? Well, it won't be newly signed free agent Tom Savage behind center as the squad cut him earlier today.
So as the 1-7 49ers get week 9 started, your guess is as good as mine as to who the third-string QB might be.
