Jim McElwain is interested in becoming the next Oregon State head coach, according to John Canzano or The Oregonian.

"Source: Former Florida coach Jim McElwain is on Oregon State’s radar," Canzano tweeted on Wednesday. "People in McElwain’s camp have had contact with OSU AD Scott Barnes. McElwain interested in OSU. Not sure how serious the consideration is but Barnes and McElwain share Eastern Washington connection."
McElwain played at Eastern Washington in the early 1980s and began his coaching career there. He was an assistant from 1985-94 and left for an assistant job at Montana State five years before Scott Barnes arrived as Eagles' athletics director. The two have never crossed paths since but as Canzano notes, it's still a connection worth noting.

McElwain — who has never coached in the Pac-12 — was fired in late October during his third season as Florida head coach. He won 19 games in his first two seasons after arriving from Colorado State but opened 2017 with a 3-4 mark. And he might be jumping right back into coaching as the Beavers continue their search following the October resignation of third-year coach Gary Andersen.
Oregon State was reportedly set to hire Cal offensive coordinator and former Eastern Washington head coach Beau Baldwin last week but that never happened. It's unclear if Baldwin is still a candidate.
