College football fans can like defensive tug-of-wars. Well, at least ones that end on last-second touchdowns.
COMPARE Any Two College Teams
Despite combining for just 12 points in the first half, 22 through three quarters and 40 for the game, Penn State and Iowa's Week 4 game in Iowa City scored big for ABC, recording the highest ratings for the week.
ABC’s Saturday Night Football earned a 3.1 overnight rating, comfortably beating Notre Dame's blowout of Michigan State by 32 percent, according to an ESPN release. The Nittany Lions' last-second win also had 62,000 streaming viewers, way up from last year's Saturday Night Football matchup of Stanford and UCLA in the same time slot.
The ABC primetime slot in Week 5 will feature Clemson at Virginia Tech, while ESPN's primetime game is Ole Miss and Alabama and Fox has Oklahoma State at Texas Tech. Unless the Rebels keep it close in Tuscaloosa or the Cowboys and Red Raiders combine for 250 points (possible), it appears ABC should win the ratings again on Saturday.
