D3 Football Players Say Goodbye to Pet Chicken With Three-Gun Salute

D3 Football Players Say Goodbye to Pet Chicken With Three-Gun Salute

Two years ago, we ran a story about three Texas Lutheran football players and their chickens. We have a tragic follow-up to that story today. Wilbur the rooster has clucked off to greener pastures. May he rest in piece.

Here's the video of the boys saying goodbye, in true Double Wide Dream (as they're known) fashion:

When Matt McCullough (strong safety), Tyler Howlett (left tackle) and Casey Viator (linebacker) moved in to a double wide trailer with friend Michael Wall before the 2015 school year, they figured they might as well make use of the chicken coop in the back. So they bought ten chickens. Four died when they left town for an away game, but six survived to adulthood. That group of survivors included the favorite of the Double Wide Dream: a black rooster named Wilbur.

Here they are, in better times:

Found this in the coop today. Going to have to have a little talk with the chickens. pic.twitter.com/QzVM5ksGx0
