ESPN College GameDay is going to Minnesota for the first time ever.
Entering the 2019 season, 54 Power Five programs had hosted College GameDay. Iowa State became the 55th in Week 3 when Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit and Co. visited Ames for the Iowa game. And with a Week 14 trip to Minneapolis for Minnesota-Wisconsin, only nine Power Five teams haven’t hosted the biggest pregame show in sports.
Cal
Cal won 60 games from 2003-09 but never hosted GameDay, which has broadcasted from the state of California 34 times. The Golden Bears have been the road GameDay team three times: 2004 (USC), 2007 (Oregon) and 2015 (Utah).
Duke
Duke has never hosted and never been the visiting or neutral-site team for GameDay. ESPN passed on Durham during the Blue Devils’ 10-win 2013 season, most notably picking Stanford at USC on Nov. 16 instead of Miami (FL) at Duke.
Illinois
GameDay was at USC’s demolition of Illinois at the 2008 Rose Bowl and Illinois’ win over Northwestern at Wrigley Field in 2010. However, the Illini have never been a true road team for GameDay, nor have they hosted GameDay.
Kansas
Kansas’ lone GameDay appearance: Nov. 24, 2008, vs. Missouri at Arrowhead Stadium. They’re the only Big 12 team who’s never hosted.
Maryland
The state of Maryland has hosted GameDay twice, though both were Army-Navy games in Baltimore (2014 and 2016). The Terrapins are one of two current Big Ten teams who’ve never made any home or road GameDay appearance.
Rutgers
Rutgers, unsurprisingly, is the other current Big Ten team without an appearance. The show has never visited New Jersey.
Syracuse
Syracuse had a prime opportunity to get off the schneid with a Week 3 game vs. Clemson this season. Instead, the Orange were throttled by a terrible Maryland team and ESPN picked Iowa State.
Virginia
GameDay has visited the Commonwealth nine times: Seven times in Blacksburg and two times in Harrisonburg. The Cavaliers have never been a road or neutral-site team either.
Wake Forest
GameDay’s three all-time visits to North Carolina: Chapel Hill in 1997, Raleigh in 2004, and Charlotte (ACC Championship) in 2017. Wake Forest doesn’t have a road or neutral-site appearance.
