In five years of the College Football Playoff era, no Group of Five has come close to sniffing the four-team field. Even when UCF rolled to a 12-0 record, the Knights finished No. 12 in the final rankings.
Will it ever happen? If the playoff never expands, will a Group of Five team ever make the field? It's highly unlikely, though, in my opinion, far from impossible.
