In the 100 days leading up to the 2018 college football season, I ranked (and previewed) one team per day, counting down from the No. 100 team on May 17 to the No. 1 team on Aug. 24. Utah State didn't have a preview. The Aggies were ranked 102nd. Whoops.
Utah State won 10 games for the third time in seven years, spent three weeks in the HERO Sports top 25 (peaked at No. 20 in Week 12) and enter the New Mexico Bowl with a chance to tie the program record for wins. They won eight games by at least 10 points, scored at least 60 points in four games and lost one-score road games to Boise State and Michigan State.
Utah State finished 29th, a whiff of 73 spots. My apologies, Aggies. You occupy first class in my postseason apology tour.
Also owed an apology: Syracuse (No. 77 preseason, No. 19 postseason), Washington State (No. 64 preseason, No. 11 postseason) and Cincinnati (No. 92 preseason, No. 42 postseason).
