The 2017 NFL Draft is coming at us quickly. The yearly extravaganza will take place in Philadelphia from Thursday, April 27 to Saturday, April 29 this year. Over the span of three days, a whole host of former college football stars will be finding a new home where they will hopefully impress during the offseason and be able to make a living by playing on Sundays.
Between now and the end of April we will be featuring some of the stars of tomorrow. Many of these are names from big time college football programs you will recognize, while some will be new to all but the most dedicated followers of the sport.
Today we look at Patrick Mahomes, a quarterback from Texas Tech who lit up the Big 12 and who's stock is only going to rise as we work through the next couple of months.

Patrick Mahomes is a walking asterisk. There are many ways to grade a quarterback, but one that many scouts look at (including Bill Parcells in his 'Parcells rules') is the number of wins as a collegiate passer. The standard here is 23 wins.
Mahomes does not have 23 wins, but that might be because he was carrying a Texas Tech squad that had one of the worst defenses in college history last fall. Mahomes gave the Red Raiders a shot in 10 games that they should have been blown out in and somehow the defense collapsed enough for Mahomes to lose two games where the offense scored over 55 points. Again, Mahomes is a walking asterisk.
This has led to at least one mock draft where Mahomes slots in as the No. 3 overall pick. While this seems unlikely, especially with free agency not even a thing yet, it is worth noting that Mahomes is very much on the rise. This video shows why as Mahomes proves that he can make all the throws and that he has accuracy and the arm strength that is going to see him blow up at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Get on this bandwagon now because space will be in short supply come the end of April.
