We caught up with Kupp's family at the STATS FCS Award Banquet in early January to talk about Cooper, who is one of the top NFL draft prospects at the wide receiver position.
Listen as Cooper Kupp's grandfather Jake Kupp — a former NFL Pro Bowler and a member of the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame — and father Jake Kupp — a former NFL quarterback — talk about Cooper's redshirt freshman season, and, in particular, a big game Cooper had against Montana.
As his grandpa mentions, even in the midst of an 8-catch, 110-yard, 1-touchdown performance, the freshman wide receiver still had some nerves throughout the game. As the eldest Kupp remembered, Cooper was a "grinder" even early in his career, working hard to earn everything he accomplished.
Kupp went on to score 21 touchdowns and total nearly 1,700 receiving yards in his first season on the field, and finished his career as the FCS leader in pretty much every career receiving category.
As you'd expect from a family on the verge of adding a third generation to NFL alumni status, the Kupp's "all like to win," as Cooper's grandfather said. Cooper has been no different at the FCS level, and we expect it to continue at the NFL level.
