Hawai'i was not included in the HERO Sports Preseason Top 100. Clearly, after the Rainbow Warriors season-opening win at Colorado State, that was a mistake.
Hawai'i blitzed the Rams early, scoring on their first three possessions (two touchdowns, one field goal) in building a 23-7 halftime lead. That lead swelled to 30 points, 37-7, when quarterback Cole McDonald connected with Cedric Byrd on a 55-yard score late in the third quarter, one of three touchdown passes for McDonald, who entered the game with 22 career pass attempts.
While Colorado State nearly pulled off a remarkable upset, it's Hawai'i who sits atop the Mountain West standings after Week 0 and made the biggest jump in the HERO Sports Top 100. Wyoming also made a huge jump thanks to a dominating defensive performance in a win over New Mexico State, who remained outside of the Top 100.
