One of the first FCS commitments for the class of 2019 is Miles Hastings, who may end up being the next big signal-caller for a budding program within the Big Sky Conference.

Hastings is a 2-star rated quarterback out of San Marcos, Calif., and just a few days after he received his verbal scholarship offer from UC Davis, he pounced on it this past weekend and committed.
There apparently was no reason to wait around. He can see where the Aggies are heading and with former Boise State and Colorado head coach Dan Hawkins back at his alma mater guiding the ship, and exciting players like future NFL receiver Keelan Doss gracing the roster, Hastings could see where things are heading, he told HERO Sports this week.
"UC Davis has a very explosive offense with great talent and the way they throw the ball around definitely got my attention," Hastings told HERO Sports. "I loved the coaching staff and players at UC Davis. I felt like their offense was a great fit for me. It's great to hear that I will be playing for a head coach with that kind of resume. I've heard nothing but great things about the whole coaching staff at Davis."

Hastings is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound prospect with good feet, good mobility but also the ability to get the ball out accurately and on time. He will take these skills to a program that is really a relative newcomer to the FCS/I-AA ranks. UC Davis hasn't had a winning season in the Big Sky Conference since coming board in 2012, and has only played as an FCS program since 2004.
Expectations are big this year that this could be a breakthrough year, with a large contingent of returning starters and the combination of QB Jake Maier throwing to what could be one of the FCS' top pro draft picks next year in Doss.
The Aggies may be able to lure even more choice recruits thanks to what many think will be a groundbreaking season. The program has never won more than six games as an FCS team, but that may change this fall.
Hastings is only the second known FCS commitment, joining Wisconsin offensive guard Ben Hoitink, who chose Penn over countless FBS offers and a North Dakota State offer back in April. As a junior, he threw for 3,119 yards and 31 touchdowns on 187-of-293 passing (64% completion percentage).
