Twenty-nine years ago, Kansas visited Anchorage, Alaska, for the Great Alaska Shootout. The Jayhawks beat host Alaska-Anchorage 94-81 in a rather uneventful game 99.9 percent of KU fans have no recollection of. But it was a big day for their head coach.

Roy Williams was the 38-year-old first-year coach of the defending national champions, and he just won his first career game. Though the former longtime North Carolina assistant was oozing with potential, few could've predicted he would win 799 more, among them two national championships. But that's exactly what he accomplished on Monday night when North Carolina walloped Syracuse for his 800th career win.
