Nearly a dozen NFL Scouting Combine QB invites were recently announced, and household names like Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, and Baker Mayfield — all of whom are projected to go in the first round — will be in Indianapolis at the end of February to showcase their talents.
While many NFL fans, and clearly college football fanatics, probably know all about these talented gentlemen, there are three others currently flying under the radar that could make a huge impact on Sundays in the future.
One of these three "underdogs" is quickly flying up draft boards despite playing at the FCS level where ESPN doesn't exactly set up shop for nationally televised games every Saturday night.
Check out all 19 QBs that will be taking their talents to Indy, including a handful you need to pay special attention to.
Lauletta finished his Richmond career throwing for over 10,000 yards and 73 touchdowns while completing 63.5% of his pass attempts. The only FCS invite to the combine, Lauletta's stock is soaring after he snagged MVP honors at this year's Senior Bowl after throwing for a game-high 3 touchdowns and 198 yards on just 8 completions.
When record-setting Hilltoppers' QB Brandon Doughty graduated after the 2015 season with nearly 13,000 career passing yards and an insane 111 touchdowns, WKU fans had to feel like a drop off was inevitable for 2016.
As a great philosopher once said, "Not so fast, my friend!"
Enter White who picked up right where Doughty left off after transferring over from South Florida in 2015. He threw for over 4,150 yards in his junior and senior seasons and tossed a total of 63 TDs to just 15 picks.
Don't be surprised if he follows in the footsteps of his predecessor who was taken in the 2016 draft in the seventh round by the Miami Dolphins.
From Byron Leftwich to Ben Roethlisberger to Chad Pennington, the Mid-American Conference has a rich history of producing top-tier NFL quarterbacks, and Logan Woodside could be the next great QB to make the leap to the pros.
The Rockets' QB led the FBS in touchdown passes in 2016 with 45, and although he saw a slight decrease last year with 28, he still threw for 3,882 yards and had a passer rating of 162.2.
If an NFL team grabs him in the latter rounds, he's an absolute steal.
