Southern Miss football is honoring one of the greatest eras and players in program history with throwback helmets.
Southern Miss won nine games apiece in 1980 and 1981, which remains the only time in program history they've won at least nine games in consecutive seasons — and the only time before 1997-98 that they appeared in back-to-back bowl games. Spearheading their success was Reggie Collier, a do-it-all playmaker who earned Third-Team All-American honors in 1982.

The Golden Eagles are 3-2 this year following their Week 6 win over UTSA and are chasing a third-straight season with at least seven wins. And their quest for a fourth victory will include throwback helmets vs. UTEP on Saturday for Homecoming.
