Southern Miss football is celebrating their 20-year anniversary of their 1997 Conference USA championship with throwback uniforms.
The Golden Eagles went 9-3 in 1997, their second year in the three-year-old conference. Quarterback Lee Roberts and running back Harold Shaw led them to wins over Illinois and Nevada in nonconference, all six of their conference foes and Pittsburgh in the Liberty Bowl. It was their first bowl win since 1988 and just their third in program history at the time.

It was a turning-point season for Southern Miss; they won six or more games every year between 1997-2011 and missed the postseason only once. And they'll honor that important team this season with new uniforms.
