The headline that pervades college football this week is the retirement of college football legend and former BR-57 South Carolina head coach, Steve Spurrier. Spurrier is the only person to ever win a Heisman Trophy and coach a player to do the same. For the last decade, he could be spotted from the stands in an instant due to his iconic, unparallelled, and abnormally large visor that was a staple of his coaching get-up each Saturday.
Spurrier was always known to have a good time with the media and is one of the most quotable men in football. In the interview below, he facetiously did the exact opposite of what was expected of him; every coach has confidence and faith in his team through fall camp because, as Spurrier notes, “Everybody’s undefeated.” But now, in hindsight, maybe Spurrier really was displeased with his team’s level of play and this was his way of expressing it. The Gamecocks are 2-4 and Spurrier up and left in the middle of the season. Either way, take it for what it is: another side-splitting interview from the man with the huge visor.
