D2 Standouts Surging into the Second Half of the Season

The D2 season is hovering at the midway point for most teams, and already we are seeing some talented studs put up eye-popping numbers.

Studs off to Incredible Starts[divider]

Here's three that are off to amazing starts and deserve our attention during the latter half of the season.

Tabyus Taylor — Virginia Union

When you win your last game by the score of 90-0, there's no shortage of stars upon which to shine the spotlight, but I'm going to affix mine on running back Tabyus Taylor.

The sophomore ripped off 235 yards on 23 carries and three touchdowns during the Panthers' historic victory over Lincoln (PA) last weekend. The Hopewell, Virginia native has 699 yards on the ground through five games and has found the end zone 11 times. He's also chipped in 21 catches for 194 yards and a score.

After winning its last two games by the combined score of 142 to 19, Taylor and company will face a tough test Saturday against no. 44 Chowan in Murfreesboro.

Amir Hall — Bowie State

The senior enters the second half of the season as the D2 leader in pass attempts (282), pass completions (191), and passing yards (2145).

The towering 6-4 QB with the fabulous nickname "Showtime" is averaging an insane 357.5 yards passing per game. Hitting at a 67.7 percent clip, he's tossed 15 touchdowns through the air and added another pair on the ground. When factoring in his rushing yards, Hall accounts for 386.3 yards of offense by himself.

Behind Hall's incredible arm, the Bulldogs rank first in the conference in passing yards.

Craig Rucker — Mars Hill

The junior sits either atop or near the top of every major D2 receiving statistic this season.

Rucker has 53 catches for 776 yards and an astounding 11 touchdowns. His 129.3 yards per game is second in the nation only to Ardell Brown of Seton Hill.

The junior out of Orlando, Florida was an absolute beast in a September 29 shootout over Limestone. The 5-7 standout caught nine balls for 221 yards and five touchdowns in his team's 51-41 win.
