No. 56 Zach Shackelford

Texas – C

Zach Shackelford wanted to play at Texas but the 2016 three-star recruit from Belton, Texas, a small town between Waco and Austin, didn't have an offer from the Longhorns. So he committed to Kansas State in July 2015 and planned to enroll early.

Texas offered in November 2015, just weeks before he planned to leave for Manhattan. Two months later, the nation's 52nd-ranked guard committed to Texas and has started 17 games over his first two seasons.

“It’s fun to see how much he has grown and how he continues to get better and better,” then-Texas head coach Strong said when Shackelford was a freshman. “You just love his overall work ethic. He is just on a mission, because he wants to prove that he is an outstanding player and deserves to be where he is.”

Despite what seems like constant injuries, the 6-foot-4, 305-pounder has started 17 games at center and is the best No. 56 in college football.
