Los Angeles metropolitan area is approaching 20 million people. They seamlessly support two NHL franchises and the youth hockey scene has exploded since the Kings and Ducks of the NHL have become powerhouses. A team at UCLA would do a few things. First off it would add a local rivalry between USC and UCLA. Second it would give UCLA a new program to advertise continuing their pattern of academic and athletic diversity. And finally third it would make sense to have a second Division 1 program in the L.A. area. UCLA could easily share an arena with a professional franchise in the area or it could invest in a small venue on campus. Either way they fit the bill perfectly.
