Chamique Holdsclaw, Tennessee
Hailing from Astoria, Queens, Chamique Holdsclaw made an immediate impact on the Tennessee Volunteers team starting in 1996. Her freshman season saw her post 16.2 points per game and pull down 9.1 rebounds. That trend continued for all four years that Holdsclaw played for the Vols as she racked up 3,025 points (20.4 per game) and 1,295 rebounds (8.8) to go along with her 386 assists, 307 steals and 115 blocks. Tennessee won three straight National Titles from 1996-98 with this NY bred phenom on the roster. Holdsclaw won the Naismith Trophy twice, was a four-time First Team All-American and was named the Division I Player of the Year twice. After graduation, Holdsclaw was picked first overall in the 1999 WNBA Draft by the Washington Mystics. She also played for the Los Angeles Sparks, the Atlanta Dream and the San Antonio Silver Stars. Holdsclaw also played for Team USA, winning a Gold Medal in her time on the roster.
