In the mid-to-late 1980s, Rutgers was a mainstay in the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament, making the field three of the four years that Sue Wicks, of Center Moriches, was on the team. Wicks was a power presense down low for the Scarlet Knights, averaging a double-double for three of her four years on the court. For her career, Wicks posted 2,655 points (21.2 per game) and 1,357 rebounds (10.9). She also blocked a staggering 77 shots during her senior campaign. Wicks won the Naismith Trophy in 1988 and was a First Team All-American three times. After graduation, Wicks spent more than 15 years playing professional basketball. From 1997-2002 she returned to her home state and competed for the New York Liberty. In 182 total games in the WNBA, Wicks scored 823 points and had 182 assists with 788 rebounds and 158 blocked shots. Wicks was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013.
