Ferris State quarterback Jason Vander Laan has been able to pass and run all over opposing defenses this season, and broke the all-time career rushing record for quarterbacks from any division. His achievements have come in no small part because of his offensive line. The Bulldogs line has only allowed Vander Laan to take ten sacks, and the team has rushed for 2,775 yards and 36 touchdowns. Only 7.23% of plays have ended negatively.
Lineman Jake Daugherty comments on how physically demanding the position is. "Compared to a receiver or other skill position, there are plays where a skill player may not have to block someone or hit so they act as a decoy or something like that," Daugherty said. "On the offensive line you're banging around every play, you have to physically dominate your opponent. It's a position that gives no glory, so being humble and a team player is why offensive lineman do what they do."
