On Nov. 21, 2017, it was reported that Texas A&M was planning to fire head coach Kevin Sumlin after the season. Five days later — and one day after a loss to LSU in the regular-season finale — that proved correct; Texas A&M fired him after six seasons in which he won 51 games.
Seven weeks later, Sumlin was hired as Rich Rodriguez's replacement at Arizona. And in doing so, he joined the group of current FBS head coaches who were fired (or resigned, forced out) from a previous head-coaching stop.
Hat tip to Paul Myerberg from USA Today for today's trivia question: How many active FBS head coaches were previously fired from head-coaching jobs?
A few notes:
Coaches who were not in danger of being fired do not count (e.g. Jimbo Fisher).
The previous head-coaching stop could be in the FBS or NFL (e.g. Chip Kelly).
Now you have three.
