Nick Saban's coaching tree became a forest long ago. Now, it's on the verge of National Park status.
Saban is entering his 23rd season as a college head coach and 25th season overall as a head coach. In those two-plus decades, he's assembled some of the better staffs in football history, laced with many assistants who've become head coaches.
How many former Nick Saban assistants — from his days in college or the NFL — are active FBS head coaches?

Answer
9
Seven percent of all FBS head coaches (and nine percent of all NFL head coaches) once coached under Nick Saban.
Jim McElwain was fired by Florida last year but both Jeremy Pruitt and Mario Cristobal joined the group at Tennessee and Oregon, respectively. Kirby Smart, Lane Kiffin and Major Applewhite are also former coordinators at Alabama. And New Louisiana head coach Billy Napier was an offensive analyst in 2011 and receivers coach from 2013-16.
Former LSU assistants Jimbo Fisher and Will Muschamp and former Michigan State assistant Mark Dantonio are also on the list.
Other former assistants, including McElwain and Derek Dooley, are former FBS head coaches. And more, including Texas Southern head coach Michael Haywood and Dallas Cowboys' head coach Jason Garrett, are head coaches at other levels.
