Apke, selected by the Redskins with 109th selection (ninth pick in the fourth round), is a native of Mount Lebanon, Pa., where he was a three-star receiver recruit in 2014. He switched to safety at Penn State and had modest numbers in four seasons — 110 tackles and two interceptions — but turned heads during the pre-draft process.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder ran a 4.34-second 40-yard dash (also ran a 4.35 on his first attempt) and had a vertical jump of 41 inches, the best and third-best numbers, respectively, among safeties. His broad jump of 131 inches ranked fourth and his 20-yard shuttle (4.03) and three-cone drill (6.56) both ranked first.
