When a defensive lineman realizes he's not going to get to the quarterback, many coaches will say they should put their hands up and try to bat the ball out of the air.
When UCLA defensive lineman Chigozie Nnoruka realized he wasn't going to get to Hawai'i quarterback Dru Brown, he took it one step further. Nnoruka threw his towel into the air at the ball:

The only thing I could find in the NCAA Rule Book is a provision about illegal equipment on page FR-23 that says:
"[Illegal equipment is] Any equipment that could provide an unfair advantage to any player."
This seems to qualify.
