The newly 23rd-ranked Washington State football team flexed their muscles against Arizona on Saturday in Pullman, tromping the Wildcats by a final score of 69-7, getting their seventh win in a row and remaining unbeaten in the Pac-12.
The Cougars flew out the gates in the beginning of the game by gaining a 24-0 advantage after the first quarter, thanks to their stout defense which gave the Cougar offense short field position to lead to easy scores.
Arizona would get their only score of the game late in the second quarter thanks to a 47 touchdown pass from Anu Solomon to Cam Denson. Solomon would finish 9 of 13 for 122 yards. Arizona would combine for 128 passing yards and 2 interceptions.
WSU’s Luke Falk would have an impressive day, completing 32 of 35 passes, a team record 91 percent pass completion, and throw for 311 yards and 4 touchdowns. Tyler Hilinski came in towards the end of the third quarter and was also impressive, throwing for 163 yards and 2 touchdowns and only two incompletions. The Cougar offensive line was impressive as well, not allowing any sacks through the whole game.
Washington State would continue to show their newfound rushing attack this season by getting a combined 140 yards on the ground. James Williams would finish with 72 yards and a touchdown and Gerard Wicks punched the ball in the end zone two times and rushed for 44 yards. Arizona would outrush the Cougs with a total of 158 yards with the help of Samajie Grant’s 77 yards on the ground.
Washington State will boost their record to 7-2 overall and 6-0 in conference action. The Cougs will also look to climb in the polls thanks to the impressive win. Arizona will continue to fall, with an overall record of 2-7 and remain winless in the Pac-12 this season at 0-6.
