Pac-12 heavyweight Washington eased into the NCAA softball season over the weekend at the Peterson Hotels invitational, scoring its first five wins of the season in the Peoria tournament. Joining the Huskies were teams from Saint Louis, Miami (Ohio), Western Illinois and homestanding Bradley.
You might think outscoring four teams 70-3 over five games in three days would be the best part of Washington's tournament sweep. However, the real highlight belonged to a pair of sophomore infielders. Second baseman Taryn Atlee and shortstop Sis Bates both hit grand slams in the sixth inning to push the Huskies into run-rule territory.
The Huskies led runner-up Bradley 4-0 after the fifth inning; thanks in part to Atlee and Bates, the game ended after six, with Washington winning 15-0.
What's better than one grand slam? TWO! @UWSoftball had two grand slams in the 6th inning of the Huskies 15-0 win over Bradley. #Pac12SB pic.twitter.com/RJrPfCSKwu
