College Football Countdown: Wisconsin’s Michael Deiter is the Best No. 63 in College Football

HERO Sports is counting down the days until the kickoff of the 2018 college football season on Saturday, Aug. 25, by featuring the best player in the FBS at each jersey number, from 99-1. Each day, from May 18 through Aug. 24, we'll publish one article showcasing the best player whose jersey number matches the number of days remaining.

No. 63 Michael Deiter

Wisconsin – OT

The New York Jets selected Wisconsin receiver Al Toon with the 10th pick in the 1985 NFL Draft. One pick later, the Houston Oilers drafted Wisconsin corner Richard Johnson, and at No. 20, Badgers' defensive end Darryl Sims was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

That remains the only year in which three Wisconsin players were drafted in the first round. But not only could the streak end in 2019, it could end courtesy of three offensive linemen.

In Todd McShay's way-too-early 2019 mock draft, he had three Badgers' big men in his top 22 picks: David Edwards (19th), Beau Benzschawel (20th) and Michael Deiter (22nd). Edwards and Benzschawel already appeared in our Best Player at Each Jersey Number; now, it's Deiter's turn. Wisconsin's left tackle is the best No. 63 in college football.

Deiter's 41 career starts have come at center, guard and tackle and he's played 95 percent of their offensive snaps over the last three seasons, according to Pro Football Focus.
