Against the Spread: Which College Football Teams Covered the Most (and Least) in 2017?

Against the Spread: Which College Football Teams Covered the Most (and Least) in 2017?

A few years ago I came up with "The Bama Theory." The concept is pretty simple: The Crimson Tide are covering machines nearly every time they play a big non-conference or SEC tilt. But when they return home to play teams from conferences like the Mountain West, as was the case twice last year, they failed to cover on both occasions.

That's why looking back at how teams fared against the spread (ATS) last year is so interesting: Just because a team had a great season record-wise doesn't mean they are deserving of your wager.

Conversely, if you had bet against a team like Hawaii, you would have enjoyed their complete inability to cover the line as their 1-10-1 ATS record indicated.
