Rich Hansen has coached hundreds of players in 27 seasons as head football coach at Saint Peter's Prep in Jersey City, N.J. Minkah Fitzpatrick is the only player who's a "one-man personnel package."
"I've only said that about one other player I've coached," he said last fall. "He's got safety size and corner skills. He could probably lead the team in receiving if he wanted to."
Fitzpatrick played safety and cornerback on defense and running back and receiver on offense, along with kick and punt returner. And though he didn't play a snap of offense during his three-year college career at Alabama, the potential top-10 selection in the 2018 NFL Draft says some college teams discussed receiver during his recruitment and that he could still lace 'em up on offense.
"[Coaches] knew I could play receiver in college if I really wanted to," he said on The Hot Route podcast this week. "Most teams wanted me to play DB. They thought I would be better off at DB. But I still think I could play receiver. If they wanted me to line up in the NFL at receiver, I'd definitely be willing and able to do it for sure."
